Brief Description:

The mission of the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) is to achieve the highest level of scientific and technological excellence in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. The Theory and Simulation Group has broad experience in the development of electronic structure methods and their application in order to perform atomistic simulations of molecules and materials. These include (but are not restricted to) SIESTA (www.siesta-project.org) and its TranSIESTA functionality. SIESTA is a multi-purpose first-principles method and program, based on Density Functional Theory, which can be used to describe the atomic and electronic properties of systems with up to several thousands of atoms. TranSIESTA is an extension of SIESTA that enables the study of electronic transport phenomena in nanoscale devices. SIESTA is widely used by the academic community (about one thousand citations per year), and has been a flagship code of the MaX European Centre of Excellence for exascale computing in Materials Science (www.max-centre.eu) since its inception in 2015.

The project will be conducted in close collaboration with other SIESTA developers at the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) and the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre (BSC-CNS), and in coordination with the developers of the other MaX flagship codes, a shell of leading European HPC centres, and selected European private-sector technological partners.

The work at the ICN2 node focuses on using advanced programming tools to turn SIESTA into a lighthouse exascale-oriented application with enhanced scientific capabilities.

Brief Description:

AI4SPIN is a project that aims to address the pressing issue of global energy consumption by innovating in the realm of ultra-low-power electronics, specifically focusing on spin-orbit torque (SOT) memories. Leveraging the promise of 2D materials, this project seeks to automate and optimize the material selection phase using AI-driven tools, aiming to achieve higher energy efficiency in spintronic applications.

The researcher will deploy linear scaling quantum transport methodology within a high throuput to generate the dataset required for machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms. The researcher therefore will have to develop, test, and evaluate different algorithms as well as to make it compatible with the AiiDA infraestructure for high throuput.

Brief Description:

We offer a Postdoctoral contract to work on MXenes and Halide Perovskites. The candidate will work on investigating and developing novel principles for solar-to-electricity and solar-to-fuel conversion using novel Pb-free MHPs/MXene heterojunctions and employing multiple photons in a process that mimics natural photosynthesis. The goal is to develop efficient solar energy convertors based on green, low-cost and abundant materials that offer prospects to be employed on large scale and contribute to global conversion and storage of solar energy. Synthesis of materials, device fabrication and characterization, as well as indoor and outdoor stability analyses of complete devices will be carried out together with data analysis and treatment. The work will be carried out at the Nanostructured Materials for Photovoltaic Energy Group at ICN2.

Brief Description:

THERMOS aims to bring academic codes for the simulation of thermal transport to a new level, transforming them into industry-grade simulation software which can be adopted in the industrial environment.

1) Implement software tools and workflows to adapt SIESTA and the thermal transport codes in use in the group to an industrial environment, within the ASAP simulation package developed by SIMUNE Atomistics SL

Brief Description:

Fañanás-Mastral group (https://fananasmastralgroup.com/) is seeking two Postdoctoral candidates with strong interest in Organometallic Chemistry and Catalysis.

This is an excellent opportunity to join the project ERC-CoG BECAME (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/863914), a cutting-edge project aimed towards the development of a new technology for energy efficient and sustainable conversion of light alkanes, which carried out in the Fañanás-Mastral group at CiQUS.

Description:

The overall aim of BECAME is the development of a new paradigm in catalysis which can provide new synergistic catalytic processes that allow methane and other light hydrocarbons to be directly converted into high-value products through synergistic bimetallic catalysis. Key efforts are directed towards the mechanistic understanding and optimization of each catalytic step to perform advantageous catalytic C-C bond forming reactions through alkane functionalization processes. The applicant will work on the development of new catalytic processes for direct stereoselective alkane functionalization. \

Requirements

We seek outstanding individuals awarded with a PhD in Chemistry with initiative, creativity and team-working ability to work in a dynamic environment to demonstrate opportunities in the field of organometallic catalysis. The following aspects will be positively considered:

– Experience in Synthesis and Organometallic Catalysis.

– Experience in photocatalysis.

– Training with high-pressure equipment and/or flow chemistry.

– Good communication skills and proficiency in written and spoken English.
